Now you have decided that a boxer is the dog for you. Thank you for considering rescue! Let us give you some idea of the application process.

You may request an adoption application via snail mail just by clicking on one of the emails in our contact section. An application will be sent to you. You may opt to fill out the online adoption application located at the bottom of this page.

Once your application is received, LaBR will review it. If you do not currently have a pet and have no vet, it is a good idea to talk to other pet owners and locate a vet that is familiar with boxers (much as you would look for a pediatrician prior to having a child!). Boxers are prone to lumps and bumps, both benign and malignant, and boxer cardiomyopathy. It is good to have a vet familiar with the breed.

Once your application is accepted, LaBR will begin to try to find the rescue dog that is right for your situation and your preferences. Since the dogs are in foster homes, we have the opportunity to evaluate them for different qualities, such as whether or not they are cat-friendly, how they react to strangers, children, men, women, etc. While we can in no way guarantee that your experiences with the dog will be the same as ours, we can let you know what the dog's reaction was while with us.

When we obtain a rescue that meets the specifications required by your situation, we will contact you and arrange for your family to meet your prospective new member. If the meeting is all that we hope it will be, an adoption agreement is signed and arrangements will be made for you to take your new family member home.

Please remember that Louisiana Boxer Rescue does not place dogs on a first come, first serve basis. Every effort is made in appropriately matching dogs and families so that all involved benefit. Our main concern is the welfare of our rescues. Please do not be discouraged if it seems to take awhile for us to find the right dog for you. Many of our Boxers come from sad situations, and we want to try to ensure that the rest of their lives are filled with happiness and contentment.
