Boxer rescue deals
with Boxers from two main sources. The first source is owner surrenders. These
are people who have found themselves in a situation where they can no longer
keep their Boxer and want him or her to find an appropriate home. There are many
reasons why people must re-home their Boxers. Sometimes there is a move to a
place that does not allow pets, or large pets. Sometimes people find that they
don't have the time to devote to a pet that they thought they would. Sometimes
there is an illness in the family, or sometime the owner passes away....the
reasons for re-homing the Boxers is as varied as the people themselves.
The second source is shelters. Many lost or abandoned Boxers end up in
kill-shelters. Rescue works closely with these shelters to remove ill or
unclaimed Boxers from the shelter and find forever homes for them. The only
thing that the Boxer must have is the underlying "Boxer Temperment".
Rescue takes the Boxer to the vet and he is checked for heartworm and any other
obvious ailment. If he is found to be heartworm positive, treatment is
scheduled. Prior to placement, all Louisiana Boxer Rescue Boxers are spayed or
neutered, current on vaccines as well as heartworm negative and on preventative.
Many of these poor babies are underweight and desparately in need of love and
care. The Boxers stay in foster homes where their temperments are evaluated, and
they are exposed to a variety of situations so that rescue volunteers can better
determine the best placement for the dog.
The philosophy of Boxer Rescue is not to provide Boxers to the public. Our main
focus is the dog itself and finding the appropriate forever home for that dog.
Rescue applications seem almost like human adoption forms, but that is because
we want to place the dog into a loving home where he will live out his natural
life.
